Annual Activities And Celebrations

BUF Community Nights
Every Wednesday night is a Community Night at BUF!  All members and friends are invited to share a meal and bask in the friendship and comfort of community.  Dinner is served at 6:00pm and occasionally there is light programming from 7:70-8:30 (we have childcare every night, so no need to make the request!).  Dinner is $4/adults, $3/kids over 5 or $10/family.  Meet in the social hall.

BUF Community Retreat
An All-Church weekend getaway to Camp Kirby on Samish Island.  The focus this year will be "Building Our Home at BUF."  We all choose this community for a variety of reasons - this year we will focus on what comforts us in times of change.  (9/25-9/27)

Pumpkin Carving
BUF Community Night hosts this year's annual tradition of Pumpkin Carving.  You bring the pumpkins, we clean up the mess.  (10/28)

Posada
BUF borrows from a traditional Mexican celebration of the birth of Jesus. We join for dinner and then go caroling with a young Mary on a mule (pony), in search of an Inn. The celebration ends back at BUF with hot chocolate and Piņatas. (12/5)

IllUUminations
Community Night celebrates the UU holiday illUUminations.  (12/9)

Hanukkah
Community Night celebrates Hanukkah.  (12/16)

Mardi Gras Auction
This year the BUF Auction will whoop it up New Orleans style.  Two popular events rolled into one - come for the food, come for the music, come for the bling.  Leave your cash!  (2/20)

Women's Retreat
A sacred tradition for BUF women. Women from all walks of life join together for great food, spiritual programming and worship, peace and tranquility, fun, laughter, community and talent. The retreaters' retreat- not to be missed.  (3/5-3/7)

Easter Egg Dying
Community Night hosts Easter Egg Dying.  Kids and adults get together before Easter to dye eggs ad make a special basket for Doug.  (3/31)

Passover Seder
A BUF style, traditional retelling of the Passover story and the celebration of Moses freeing the Israelites from slavery and persecution in Egypt. Great food, great conversations and a history lesson to boot!  (4/3)

Everybody's Birthday
A great community opportunity to mix and mingle while decorating a cake with members and friends who share your birthday month.  Celebrated after the worship service.  (4/11)

BUF Family Campout
Get back to nature at our annual family campout, Bayview State Park - Located seven miles west of Burlington, and 14 miles east-NE of Anacortes, WA, in Skagit County. State Park website .  (7/3-8/1)

And finally, a light-hearted look at one way we UU's sometime celebrate. Everybody knows about Hanukkah, and maybe about Chanukah Songs - Jewish Holiday Songs. But what about a UU Chalika? :

"Life becomes religious whenever we make it so:
when some new light is seen,
when some deeper appreciation is felt,
when some larger outlook is gained,
when some nobler purpose is formed,
when some task is well done."
