August 1: Call to artists for REart: Recycled Art Show
It's time for artists, designers, and clothiers to roll up their sleeves and prepare for the 6th annual Art and Fashion Show. Some may say its just a bunch of junk but they'll come around eventually.Bellingham's Show will art in three different locations, running from Friday, October 5th through Saturday, October 27th.The Allied Arts of Whatcom County Gallery will feature the work of professional and semi-professional artists. The RE Store gallery will focus on art submitted from the public schools and young people. The W.W.U. Viking Gallery will show pieces from higher education students (Western Washington University, Whatcom Community College, Bellingham Technical College, and Skagit Community College) with an emphasis on both art and industrial design. August 2: Sustainable Forestry Tour
Take a trip around Whatcom County to view how FSC chain-of-custody certification is being practiced within a working forest, local mills, suppliers and distributors.

August 4: Streamside Explorations
Enhancement Association for a walk along Terrell Creek. See if you can spot a fish as you explore their habitat and test the health of the creek. This event will meet a the Wildlife Theater in the Upper Day Use Area of Birch Bay State Park. This event will also be held on Saturday August 4th.

August 6: Garden Qigong
For 6 successive Mondays in the summer beginning on July 2. Come enjoy gentle, energizing exercises with others in a peaceful country location with Robert Bates. Gather and circulate natural Qi of a variety of sorts amidst a visual and energetic cornucopia. Kathy Veterane has gathered a large, diverse collection of perennials, ornamental grasses and shrubs into rich, beautiful gardens of living art. Bask in the varieties of trees, meadows, ponds and garden beds. Have fun, feel better and get healthier. Qigong is the Healing Movement art that brings more energy to your body and more spirit to your life. These 6 Qigong classes are introductory. For those who haven't done any Qigong before, it is a chance to experience a little of its joyful internal healing power. For everybody it is an opportunity to practice, and to share a healing experience with others in nature. The movements and breathing are gentle and easy to learn, accessible to pretty much anybody. You are welcome to come to as many of the six as you can make it to.

August 11: Discover Low Tide
Find out who lives underfoot in the Birch Bay tidelands. Enjoy a walk along the beach at low tide to explore the dynamic lives of marine invertebrates. Learn how these critters have adapted to their ever-changing home. This event meets at the Wildlife Theater in the Upper Day Use Area of Birch Bay State Park.

August 17: Huge Community Wide Garage Sale
Check out our Huge Garage Sale. Hundreds of donors, Thousands of items, and Bargains, Bargains, Bargains! The sale will be on Friday August 17th 2007 and Saturday August 18th 2007. Friday for the truly eager shopper, we will hold a pre sale from 8am to 9am for $10.00. This is a good way to shop before the general public. The doors will then open at 9am to the general public. On Sat. the doors will open at 8am, no pre sale that day. Join us, won't you? August 21: Wildlife-Friendly Yards
Bellingham Parks representative Rae Edwards shows the variety of resources available to help create wildlife-friendly yards and provides some materials for participants to take home with them. Sharing the yard with wildlife can be fun, easy, and entertaining. Native plant landscaping provides food and shelter for local songbirds and other wildlife, reduces the need for water and chemical pest control, and increases the biodiversity of our urban areas. Edwards is the Bellingham Parks Volunteer Coordinator. The Parks Volunteer program offers Bellingham citizens environmental stewardship and restoration opportunities in parks and on Greenways properties throughout the year. Edwards has also worked as an education interpreter for Lake Tennant Whatcom County Park, the Whatcom Museum, City of Bellingham Public Works, and the Maritime Heritage Center's Environmental Learning Center. This program is cosponsored by Village Books.

August 25: Watery Wonders of Whatcom County
Join us for beach explorations, a salmon hatchery tour, and watersheds 101. Learn how to create backyard habitat, and shellfish gardens. Make a rain-barrel and build nesting boxes. Enter to win a painted rain barrel!
Time: 9 am to 12 noon.
Location: Environmental Learning Center and Maritime Heritage Park, Bellingham
