December 1: Birding the Beaches of Semiahmoo
The mudflats and rich marine life of Semiahmoo Bay and Drayton Harbor attract a multitude of resident and migratory birds. This area is one of the most significant birdwatching areas in Western Washington. Enjoy the discovery of birds and their behaviors on a 1 mile walk with expert ornithologist Paul Woodcock. No registration required.

December 1: Chum and Coho Salmon Tour
Discover winter Chum & Coho on this trip with fish surveyor Doug Huddle along Nooksack River properties owned by the Whatcom Land Trust. See the salmon ast hey make their spawning trip up the river and learn about their tendencies and challenges from this experienced outdoorsman. Call to register. Limit 12.

December 2: Winter Health with Herbs
Linda Quintana, owner of Wonderland Herbs, will teach participants how to make cough syrup, poultices and tea blends. Transportation is provided for the first ten registered.

December 5: Green Drinks Bellingham!
Join RE Sources for another session of Green Drinks Bellingham on Wednesday, December 5th at Honey Moon from 5-7 pm to connect with other green thinkers, movers and shakers. Green Drinks is an organic networking session that started in London, England and has since caught fire around the world. Like-minded individuals in places from Hong Kong to India, Sweden to South Africa meet every month to catch-up, network and talk about the latest green issues. According to greendrinks.org, These events are very simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity. The best part about Green Drinks is that there is no structure, just good people meeting at a regular place and time. December 5-8: December Used Book Sale
The Friends of the Bellingham Library used book sale , held in the downstairs meeting room of the Bellingham Library, will begin with a Preview Sale on Wednesday, December 5, from 3-6pm. Books will be at double the marked price during the Preview Sale only. The regular sale will be Thursday, December 6, from 10am-8pm, Friday, December 7, from 10am-6pm for a half price sale and Saturday, December 8, from 10am-3pm for a $3 per bag sale. The sale includes children's and adults' books, both fiction and non-fiction, collectibles, DVDs and videos. Books are sold at bargain prices. Proceeds from the sale are used to fill in the gaps in the library budget.

December 6: Construction Waste Recycling Workshop
Ever considered where all those jobsite materials end up during and after construction? We've got local examples and panelists to explain how an effective waste management plan cleans up your site, increases safety, reduces your hauling fees by 30-50%, and earns you those valuable LEED points. Take a tour of the new Pickford Dreamspace on track for LEED certification and hear how one contractor is managing recycling new materials and C&D. Pizza from LaFiamma will be provided to those who RSVP. The Jobsite Recycling Panel includes:

December 7: Eliot Coleman on Eating Local
Join local farmers, eaters and Maine author/farmer Eliot Coleman for an evening of exploring the history and current position of the local food movement, and the compelling reasons behind it. Presented by Sustainable Connections, the Bellingham Farmers Market, Village Books & the Community Food Co-op

December 8: Eagles of the Nooksack
Winter floods wash spawned salmon carcasses to the river bars of the North Fork Nooksack River. Bald eagles congregate to feast. Come explore the ways that the lives of eagles, salmon and humans intertwine in Whatcom County with naturalist David Bean. Dress in layers for comfort in the winter weather. Register at start of trip.

December 15: Snowshoe Walk with the Raven
As winter snow softly accumulates, the blanketed landscape takes on a new shape. Raven speaks from a high perch. Step into a pair of modern light-weight showshoes to explore the snowy higher elevations of Whatcom County on a 2-mile walk with naturalist David Bean. Destinations on Mt. Baker or Canyon Lake Creek Community Forest will be selected based on snow conditions. Traverse moderate terrain at an easy pace. Call to pre-register.
