November 2007

November: Manatee Awareness Month

November 2: Sustainable Global Leadership Alliance
With Myra Murphy Jacob, from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Myra is founder and Executive Director of SGLA -- Sustainable Global Leadership Alliance, and will be speaking in Bellingham. SGLA produces a powerful leadership program for youth, ages 16-22, focused on sustainability work. Through this program --which consists of five intensive weekends plus three weeks of experiential learning and travel in a foreign country-- SGLA cultivates the leaders that we urgently need for global economic, ecological, and social sustainability. I, Alan Seid, have been involved with SGLA for almost a year now, and have been enormously impressed with the effects it produces in the young people involved, as well as their peers and families. I am personally opening a chapter of SGLA in Whatcom County and am inviting you to get involved, or at least to become informed about it.

Break the Silence. . . End the Isolation. . . Change the Story. . .
The Great Turning makes the case that we humans are a choice making species that at this defining moment faces both the opportunity and the imperative to choose our future as a conscious collective act. We can no longer deny the need nor delay our response. A mounting perfect economic storm is fast approaching. A convergence of climate change, peak oil, and the financial instability inherent in an unbalanced global trading system will bring an unraveling of the corporate-led global economy and a dramatic restructuring of every aspect of modern life. Come join us as we watch Korten's video on his book and engage in a faciliated discussion about where we go from here to heal the damage we've done to the Earth.
