Tell Whatcom County Council to Prioritize Funding for Behaviorial Care & Community Services Over a Larger Jail
Dear Friends,
The new Whatcom County Jail plan and budget are being voted on by Whatcom County Council next month! Proposals presented to County Council sacrifice the behavioral care and community services promised that got the measure passed in 2023. Even more, the recommendation to the Council is to have no booking restrictions leading to plans for up to 600 beds in the new jail. We knew there would be issues when the measure passed in 2023, but now we are looking at the worst case scenario.
