SEJC March 2026 Special Collection:  PFLAG’s TAF

This month we have the opportunity to help support the local expression of one of the most diverse grassroots organizations in the United States and its new local program. Since 1973 PFLAG (Parents, Families, Friends of the LGBTQ+community) has acted as a bridge between the straight and queer communities.  PFLAG provides support, advocacy and education to counter false and harmful perceptions of LGBTQ+ folks.

PFLAGs of Whatcom and Skagit Counties are collaborating on their new project, the  Transgender Assistance Fund, which is the recipient of the March SEJC collection. BUFster Francie Gass has worked to set up TAF, and  we can join her in helping meet the needs of transgender folks, especially those without family support.  Besides helping provide space and advocacy, our contributions will help cover costs for members of the transgender community who have trouble with financial resources to support their journey.  Such expenses may include those not covered by insurance, or the nearly $300 in fees to register a name change, electrolysis,  appropriate clothing, occasionally basic living expenses, etc.

Our contributions to PFLAG-TAF reinforce the UU principle of respecting the worth and dignity of every person.  Thanks!
